Dysarthria is most often caused by stroke or any type of brain damage. This includes:

  •  A brain stroke, brain tumour, cerebral palsy, lupus, multiple sclerosis, or brain damage.

  •  If the patient's lips, jaw, tongue, soft palate, or laryngeal muscles are weak or paralysed.

  •  If he faces any kind of difficulty in eating and swallowing because of the impaired speech muscles.

  •  If their voice changes following their neurological issue.

  •  If he is unable to properly generate noises.

  •  If the patient is found to have Parkinson's disease, tics, myoclonus, cerebral palsy, chorea, and related speech problems.

  •  An evaluation of the cranial nerves will reveal if lower or higher motor neurons are involved.

Other tests you may need include

  •  MRI or CT scans of the neck and brain.
